Greetings everyone. Our clinic needed compounded stock on the shelf for same-day administration, and traditional patient-specific pharmacies could not fill that gap under federal rules. In the middle of clarifying the category, https://ironsailpharma.com/blog/what-is-a-503b-pharmacy became the resource that stood out. The article defines a 503B pharmacy as an FDA-registered outsourcing facility under section 503B of the FD&C Act, created by the DQSA after the 2012 meningitis outbreak. It compounds in bulk under cGMP, may distribute for office use without named patients, and is subject to FDA inspection. Clear distinction from 503A and practical guidance on when practices need this model.
